Congratulations to Animesh Gurjar!

Congratulations to Animesh Gurjar for successfully defending his M.S. thesis!

Ani’s dissertation, Signals, Intent, and Interpretation: A Lightweight Multimodal Study, examines linguistic, audio, and visual feature interaction in the task of multimodal sarcasm detection. He presents a lightweight fusion approach that enables a layer of interpretability on sarcasm detection and finds that overt, expresive sarcasm is easier for computational systems to detect than subtle, deadpan sarcasm, and that performance that is dependent on detecting specific styles of expression often fail to transfer across speakers.

Congratulations to Ani! I unfortunately forgot to snap a picture after the defense, but Ani is staying for a Ph.D., so we’ll get it a few years.
